winteraction: The Raincoat Project

  • North Vancouver City Hall 141 W 14th St North Vancouver Canada (map)

Presented by Iva Jankovic
The Raincoat Project is a celebration of Winter fashion and
the power of bad weather to bring people together. The
project consists of three oversized, yellow PVC rain- coats
with the words “come on in” painted on them. Hung just
above eye-level, these jackets invite passersby to huddle in
close and share in a superbly instagrammable moment
crowned by a memorable selfie. It invites them to reenact
childhood memories of playing in the rain and embrace the
beautiful contrast of colours against the dreary backdrop of
our often rainy city. The hope is that visitors will leave
feeling slightly more enthusiastic about the fun of Winter
weather, having enjoyed themselves, and perhaps having
met someone new. The display will take place between
10am and 5pm on January 27th, in the outdoor space in
front of the North Vancouver City Hall. The coats will be
hung from trees using a system of ropes and a structural
support to keep the jackets open. The hashtags
#winteraction and #timeforwinteraction will be painted on
the jackets, encouraging the public to post their pictures
and share the excitement about Winter over social media!
