what is winteraction?

winteraction is a collaborative initiative run by several urban catalysts that live and work in Canada and Europe. Through winteraction we want to achieve greater awareness for the state of our urban public life, in reaction to the rising number of people affected by seasonal sadness and social isolation. The urban environment could be considered a tough living environment, especially in winter. More than ever it seems important to actively invite people to interact in public spaces, a task the initiators have contributed to on different scales. Since this is an international issue, the idea behind winteraction is to combine forces and let a wave of interaction travel around the Northern Hemisphere on the 27th of January, 2018.

This is an open invitation to take action in your local community, wherever that may be. Whether your winter environment is damp and rainy, or dry and white, think of something you would like to do on Saturday January 27th to facilitate interaction.

Think about greeting the people you cross in the streets or how it would be to share warm tea with some neighbours you didn’t know before on the street corner. Perhaps you feel like you could host a winter bonfire in a nearby park. Share your ideas and winterventions using the hashtags #winteraction and #timeforwinteraction.
